About Centre for Research

M.Kumarasamy College of Engineering (MKCE) was established with a vision “To emerge as a leader among the top institutions in technical education.” The Institute has developed excellent facilities in infrastructure and academics.

Research and development activities are carried out in Structural, Environment, Image Processing, Networking, AI, Nanotechnology, Energy, Materials and more. Six departments are recognized as research centers by Anna University, Chennai.

The Centre for Research Cell promotes research culture, publications, patents and sponsored projects.

Objectives

  • Established in 2012 to develop strategic research plans.
  • Provides support for sponsored research, consultancy and patents.
  • Encourages interdisciplinary projects.
  • Acts as a platform for research and dissemination.

Ph.D. / M.S. by Research

Candidates must register at MKCE Research Centre after provisional approval from Anna University. Progress is reviewed once every six months.

Institutional fellowship of ₹15,000 per month is provided for full-time Ph.D. scholars.

Consultancy

Framework and guidelines for faculty-led consulting activities.

Objectives

To establish a framework to support consultancy activities at MKCE.

General Principles

  • Consultancy work may be undertaken by faculty members in their area of expertise.
  • Consultancy services should be undertaken only with prior permission from the Institute.
  • It should not interfere with the discharge of prime duties of the faculty member or the department.
  • Consultancy services should not conflict with the interests of the Institute.
  • The consultant should not directly or indirectly associate with any unethical or inappropriate activity.
  • The two types of consultancy are: Individual Consultancy (offered by a faculty member in their individual capacity) and Institutional Consultancy (offered by a team of faculty members from the same or different disciplines of the Institute).

When Consulting Activity may be Permitted

  • The organization requiring consultancy services shall write to the Principal indicating the required expertise. Alternatively, faculty may seek permission from the Principal.
  • The Principal will consider compatibility with faculty responsibilities, potential conflicts of interest, and use of institutional resources.
  • A MoU may be signed between the organization and the Institute defining the consultancy work and commercial terms.
  • Faculty engaged in consultancy shall periodically report progress to the HoD.
  • For outside visits, leave as due shall be availed. Special Casual Leave or Duty Leave may be granted at the discretion of the Principal.

Publications: Publications arising from consultancy work shall include faculty affiliation with the college and acknowledge the facilities used.

Intellectual Property Rights

  • Patents arising from consultancy work, if applicable, shall be jointly published in the name of the authors and the Institute.

Revenue Sharing

  • Institute facilities and resources may be used for consultancy work.
  • Meetings related to consultancy work may be conducted in the Institute with proper acknowledgment of facilities used.

To promote Industrial Consultancy activities, the following institutional charges shall apply:

On completion of the work, the honorarium may be distributed upon approval of the Principal, either on a case-by-case basis or periodically.
